Safety Tips
The Tucson Police Department has a great website that contains dozens of tips for home security, personal safety and neighborhood safety.
Visit the site at: www.cityoftucson.org/police and click on “Crime Prevention.”
Our neighborhood also has a Volunteers in Prevention program where residents have been trained by police to be aware of
neighborhood safety. They also work on removing graffiti. Stay tuned for information about future training sessions.

Neighborhood Watch
Several neighbors have expressed concern about petty theft, vandalism and suspicious activity in the area.
According to the Tucson Police Department, our neighborhood has had a low rate of police calls compared to nearby areas over the last several years.
However, there have been recent reports of increased problems.
The Tucson Police Department offers the Neighborhood Watch Program for residents concerned with reducing crime on their street.
According to Becky Noel, in the Crime Prevention Division of the Mid-Down Station the program is organized on a block-by-block basis of around 20-25 homes.
In order to start a program, the Police Department requires that one or more individuals from each block (of about 20-25 homes) first survey their neighbors and collect signatures of those willing to participate.
When the block organizer has collected signatures from at least 51% of the neighbors, the Police Department will send out a representative to a block meeting (of about 1 hour length) to explain the program criteria to the neighbors.
In order to qualify for the program, the neighbors agree to follow certain guidelines such as having house addresses clearly visible from the street and in the alley, providing contact information to neighbors and, most importantly, keeping an eye out for suspicious activity and reporting promptly to the police.
The Police Department will check that the guidelines are in place and then will issue official Neighborhood Watch signs for the street and homes and return on an annual basis for update meetings.
Neighborhood Watch is a great way for neighbors to get to know each other better and build a sense of community.
